On December 1, 2024, Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho was officially inaugurated as the General Manager of PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Bali, succeeding his role as General Manager of PLN UID West Sumatra. This transition not only marks a new chapter in Eric’s career but also brings with him the invaluable experiences gained from managing electricity distribution in a province as rich in natural and cultural beauty as West Sumatra.
Before leading PLN UID Bali, Eric served in West Sumatra, a province renowned for its extraordinary allure, both in nature and culture. One of its greatest icons is the Mentawai Islands, recognized not only across Indonesia but internationally. Mentawai, with its breathtaking natural charm, is a magnet for tourists, especially world-class surfers. The pristine and challenging waves of Mentawai make it one of the world’s best surfing destinations, reflecting the powerful bond between nature and the lives of the local communities.
However, Mentawai’s beauty extends beyond its waves. The islands’ lush tropical forests, exotic beaches, and stunning landscapes offer a rare serenity. Mentawai is also celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and strong traditions. The local people maintain a close relationship with nature, preserving customs that have been passed down for generations. Here, Eric gained profound insights into the importance of preserving nature and culture, as well as the balance between progress and conservation.
These experiences serve as valuable preparation for Eric in leading PLN UID Bali. Bali, with its unique charm and challenges, faces an ever-growing demand for energy. As an international tourism hub, Bali requires a robust energy supply to support its various sectors, from tourism to creative industries and local community needs. Drawing from his extensive experience managing electricity distribution in regions with strong natural and cultural characteristics, Eric offers a broad perspective on the importance of innovation in delivering efficient and sustainable energy solutions.
Energy sustainability in Bali will be a central focus of Eric’s leadership at PLN UID Bali. Amid the rapid development of the tourism industry and increasing environmental awareness, the major challenge lies in ensuring a stable and eco-friendly electricity supply. Bali has positioned itself as a sustainable tourism destination, emphasizing environmental and cultural preservation. Consequently, Eric and his team at PLN UID Bali will strive to develop renewable energy solutions, such as solar and wind power, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Managing electricity distribution in Bali requires a deep understanding of the region’s social and economic dynamics. Bali is not only known for its natural beauty but also as a place where diverse cultures and traditions coexist harmoniously. Like Mentawai, Bali has a community deeply rooted in its cultural values, and Eric aims to ensure that every innovation and policy in the electricity sector aligns with the preservation of Bali’s culture and environment.
Bali also presents a complex electrical system, involving various technical and logistical challenges. In tackling these issues, Eric will bring his wealth of experience and knowledge from his time in West Sumatra, which shares similar challenges in managing electricity distribution across vast and diverse regions. In Mentawai, for instance, rugged terrain and limited infrastructure demanded creative solutions in electricity provision. These experiences will greatly assist Eric in designing a more efficient and effective distribution system for Bali, incorporating renewable energy availability and sustainable system maintenance.
Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho, with his character-driven leadership and commitment to sustainable energy management, is poised to guide PLN UID Bali into a new era. The natural beauty of Mentawai that has inspired Eric throughout his journey will be reflected in the innovative approaches he brings to Bali. With his passion and dedication, Eric is expected to maintain the balance between progress and environmental conservation, creating an electricity system that not only supports Bali’s economic growth but also aligns with the island’s vision as an environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism destination.
Bali welcomes this new leadership with great optimism, as under Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho, the future of Bali’s electricity will shine brighter, greener, and more sustainable, in harmony with the island’s natural beauty, which is a source of collective pride.
