Bali, famously known as the Island of the Gods, has always been a magnet for those seeking beauty, serenity, and cultural wonder. Beyond its breathtaking natural scenery, Bali offers an immersive experience through its vibrant culture present in every corner. Sacred rituals, intricate carvings, and profound life philosophies make this island more than just a travel destination—it is a place to understand the harmony between humanity, nature, and spirituality.

In 2025, Bali becomes even more special with the presence of Brigadier General of the Marine Corps Tony Kurniawan, serving as the Head of the Regional Intelligence Agency (Kabinda) of Bali. Interestingly, Brigadier General Tony Kurniawan hails from Sunda, a cultural background that adds new colors to Bali’s harmony. His presence among the Balinese people exemplifies how Indonesia’s diversity can create a beautiful symphony.

Bali has always captivated with its rich traditions. Majestic temples adorned with intricate carvings, the ubiquitous offerings of canang sari, and traditional dances such as Kecak and Barong, which depict mythological tales, all showcase the profound spirituality of its people. The philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmonious relationships between humans, God, and nature, serves as a guiding principle that permeates every aspect of Balinese life.

On the other hand, Brigadier General Tony Kurniawan brings the noble values of Sundanese culture, characterized by warmth and humility. Sundanese philosophy, such as silih asih, silih asah, silih asuh—mutual love, education, and care—perfectly aligns with the communal spirit upheld by the Balinese people. Sundanese traditions, like ngaruat, which reminds individuals to maintain harmony with nature, mirror Bali’s melukat rituals, aimed at spiritual purification.

As the Kabinda of Bali, Brigadier General Tony Kurniawan not only fulfills his duty of safeguarding security but also serves as a symbol of cultural unity. His presence conveys the message that diversity is a strength that binds the nation together. Through a localized and wise approach, he fosters a peaceful atmosphere that further solidifies harmony on the Island of the Gods.

Beyond Balinese and Sundanese cultures, Bali’s charm is also shaped by the influences of other Nusantara cultures. In culinary arts, for instance, visitors can savor the richly spiced ayam betutu complemented by Sundanese-style sambal. In performing arts, the grandeur of Balinese gamelan often blends with the melodies of Sundanese kecapi suling, creating an enthralling harmony. Even in architecture, Bali’s majestic traditional designs are often modernized with inspirations from other Indonesian cultures.

Bali is not just a travel destination but also a space where diverse cultures meet and enrich one another. Brigadier General Tony Kurniawan’s role as Kabinda of Bali further strengthens the message that Bali is a place where all elements of Indonesian culture coexist in harmony. He serves as a bridge between two great cultures, Sunda and Bali, each with its own beauty and uniqueness.

The Island of the Gods is a true symbol of Indonesia—a nation rich in culture, brimming with diversity, and always welcoming with open arms. Bali is where journeys are not merely about visiting but also about experiencing, understanding, and becoming part of the grand harmony offered by the Nusantara. With Brigadier General Tony Kurniawan at its heart, Bali proves once again that diversity is a strength and harmony is a blessing to be cherished. For anyone who visits, Bali is not just a tourist destination but a place where the soul finds peace and true beauty.
